Louise & Ed - Bump shoot

It was lovely catching up with Louise & Ed, whose baby is due at the end of the month, for a bump shoot. Louise always looks gorgeous, but she has that extra special glow at the moment!

And we're very excited about meeting (and photographing) their little one when he/she comes along!

Bree, Phil & Veya

While I spent the last week holding the fort here and wading through a large pile of bookwork, Jay has been having a great time catching up with friends and family back in Ontario.

As this was a social trip he travelled very light (only taking three cameras, three flashes, a tripod, a softbox...the list goes on!).

Of course he couldn't resist doing a few photo shoots along the way, especially when he met our new niece Veya for the first time. We think you will agree that she is absolutely gorgeous (just like her mummy and daddy!) and that at just six weeks-old she is already quite the poser!

Kirsten, Robbie & Caitlin - Edinburgh portrait photography

Today we headed down to Holyrood for a portrait shoot with Kirsten, Robbie and Caitlin.

The weather was a bit wild so it was a case of taking cover as often as possible, but fortunately the area offers lots of good spots to use and these guys were great fun to work with.

We are really looking forward to photographing Kirsten & Robbie's wedding next June - they make an awesome couple and we can tell it's going to be a fantastic day.

Me & my girls - Edinburgh portrait photography

Once upon a time, five girls lived in a student flat... Almost 10 years later we are still the best of friends and all get together from our various corners of the UK every year for a Scottish Christmas.
This year we had the great idea of starting the day with a photo shoot, and Jay was happy to do the honours. As usual when we get together there was lots of silliness so smiling for the camera was no problem!

Amy & Graham - Edinburgh portrait photography

On Wednesday we headed to South Queensferry to meet Amy & Graham, a lovely couple who decided to celebrate their first anniversary with a photo shoot.
It was an incredibly windy day so we spent a fair bit of time dashing from one semi-sheltered spot to another. But the results were worth it...

The Laidlaws - Edinburgh portrait photography

Yesterday we made the most of the November sun and autumn leaves during our shoot with the Laidlaw family.
We had such a great time on this shoot. Alastair, Karen, Alix and Kirsty were fantastic to work with and it was a pleasure to photograph such a close (not to mention gorgeous) family.

Urban portrait photography, Edinburgh

Armed with new equipment and some new techniques to try, we headed out today to do a portrait shoot with two top models (ahem!), ourselves!

We're sure people sometimes think we have gone a bit mad when we suggest using urban locations for portrait shoots. Why on earth do we want them to stand in front of a piece of rusty corrugated iron when there is a lovely park just over the road? They are (usually) too polite to ask, but we know that's what they are thinking!

To prove that you don't need auspicious surroundings to create amazing photos we headed to a car park in Leith today (not very glamorous) and challenged each other to come up with the goods.

Katrina, Frances & Theresa, South Queensferry - Edinburgh portrait photography

As usual, today began with us studying the weather forecast for clues as to how the day would play out. Allegedly, the rain showers would clear up shortly after lunch. Yay! Just in time for our family portrait shoot, we thought optimistically.

We met Katrina, her mum, Frances and her gran, Theresa at Orocco Pier in South Queensferry. They had spent the morning having their hair and make-up done in Edinburgh and all looked fantastic.

We headed down to the shore for some shots with the impressive Forth Rail Bridge as a backdrop. It's always great to photograph different generations of one family, particularly as many of us never quite get around to having these photos taken. And having supported each other through some difficult times, Katrina and her mum and gran are particularly close.

After a stroll along the beach (with us snapping away) it was time for a change of location and we headed off to our next spot. By now the wind was picking up and the clouds were growing darker so we had to shoot as quickly as possible before dashing back inside to the lovely, not to mention warm, Orocco Pier. We were joined there by Katrina's dad, Tom, who usually hates having his photograph taken but put on his best smile for us!

After some shots on the balcony, followed by a nice hot coffee, it was time to head home, dodging the lightning as we ran to the car!

We'd like to thank Katrina and her family for being such fantastic fun to work with and for not raising their eyebrows too much when we asked them to pose by the blue door! We really enjoyed the shoot and can't wait to show you your photographs.

Joel & Dee, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada

As most of you know, Jay spent the last two weeks of September in Canada, visiting friends and family and enjoying the 30 degree heat, while I held the fort back here (in the rain).
As usual, Jay was determined to travel with as much camera equipment as possible but it's good to see that he managed to do some work while he was in Ontario. That is, if you can call a portrait shoot with two of our best friends work!
Joel was the best man at our wedding and he did a fantastic job. And his lovely lady Dee was responsible for making sure that he not only got to Scotland but left the pub early enough the night before (4am I think it was!) to make the 100-mile train journey to our wedding venue. So she deserves lots of praise too!
It's always a joy to photograph two people in love and this shoot was great fun for all involved, including the lovely Lexi (Joel & Dee's husky) who enjoyed her starring role.

Linda & Alastair, Angus

It's rare that we have a weekend off and, with Jay visiting family in Canada, I took the opportunity to spend the weekend with my parents at their farm in Angus.
The wet summer has played havoc with harvest this year. While this is not good news for our farmers, it did mean that my Dad had time to pose for a few new photos for his website - www.fordhouse.co.uk
I also persuaded my parents to take part in a mini portrait shoot, as the last time they had professional photos of the two of them taken was at their wedding over 30 years ago! It was a pleasure to photograph two of my favourite people and I hope we are still as happy as they are in 30 years time!
